Land Scarcity in Jackson Hole

Less than 3% of land in Teton County, Wyoming is privately owned. 97% of the 2,697,000 acres in Teton County is owned or managed by Bridger Teton National Forest, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Targhee National Forest, the Elk Refuge, Shoshone National Forest, Wyoming Game & Fish, Bureau of Land Management, and the State of Wyoming. That leaves just 80,000 acres, of which about half is held in some sort of land trust, conservation easement, or large family holdings. Once conservation easements and government entities are factored in, only 1.42% of all acreage in Teton County can be owned by the public. A large majority of the publicly available property has already been developed – leaving only 1,600 vacant land deeds in Teton County, Wyoming as of June 1, 2018.
